We welcomed Raz Olsher & Afla Sackey as Visiting Artists at the studio, a duo whose bond fuels a dynamic and effortless musical relationship. Their sound is rooted in tradition yet driven by innovation, creating an experience that is both physical and emotional.
Raz is a multi-platinum producer and founder of Fossil Studios, known for his solo electronic work and collaborations with Basement Jaxx, Sam Lee, and Lamar. Afla is a master percussionist and dancer who has performed with Ginger Baker, Tony Allen, and Sun Ra, and worked with Sadler’s Wells and the Royal Festival Hall. Together, they’ve released music on labels like Beating Heart, MoBlack’s Afro Zone, Fossil Sounds, and Mawimbi Records. Their debut album, The Cycle (2022) was praised by BBC Radio 6, 1Xtra, Gilles Peterson, and Jamz Supernova. Its follow-up, Echoes of Resistance, released on Wah Wah 45s, expanded their sonic palette with bold, rhythmic production. They’ve also remixed tracks for Glass Animals, Batida, and Crate Classics, and were recognised by the National Lottery Arts Council for their cross-cultural work.
During their residency, Raz and Afla will have shifted from their signature dancefloor sound to explore a more cinematic and spiritual direction. Blending ancient rhythms, African vocal harmonies, and rich string textures, they’ll use the studio’s unique acoustics to craft an immersive piece that reflects their artistic evolution.
