We had the fantastic Portico Quartet at the studio as part of our Visiting Artist Programme. Known for their ability to blur the lines between jazz, minimalism, and electronic music, the London-based group has built a reputation for sonic exploration and innovation. From their Mercury Prize-nominated debut Knee-Deep in the North Sea to their most recent release ‘Terrain’, recorded at Abbey Road’s Studio One with an extended ensemble, the Portico Quartet have consistently evolved their sound while maintaining a distinctive musical identity.
During their time at SRM, they began the early stages of a new album – experimenting, sketching, and exploring ideas in a fresh environment. With no fixed destination in mind, they allowed the space to shape their work, embracing the creative process with openness and curiosity. We look forward to hearing where this journey takes them next.
