Shards is a London-based vocal ensemble led by singer and composer Kieran Brunt.
Founded initially for a live collaboration with Nils Frahm at the Barbican in 2016, the group has become highly sought-after for its unique sound and distinctive studio practice.
Shards signed to Erased Tapes in 2019, releasing their debut album ‘Find Sound’ that same year to critical acclaim. The mini-LP ‘Byrd Song’, born from a commission by BBC Radio 3, was released in 2024.
On record, Shards has collaborated with a broad range of artists including Aurora, Nils Frahm, Squid, Luke Howard, Erland Cooper, Mind Against and Michael Price. Their live collaborators include A Winged Victory for the Sullen, Lubomyr Melnyk, Hatis Noit, Anna von Hausswolff, Shida Shahabi and Sigur Ros: LIMINAL with Paul Corley, Alex Somers and Jónsi
TV and Film credits include the BAFTA-winning score for SILO by Atli Örvarsson, Carly Paradis’s Ivor-nominated score for TYPIST, ARTIST, PIRATE, KING.
Outside of Shards, Kieran is a composer, songwriter and arranger. He has received numerous commissions from BBC Radio 3, including ‘The Virtual Symphony’ and ‘The Rising Sea Symphony’, which was nominated for the Prix Italia. He was a Composer in Residence at the Muziekgebouw Eindhoven from 2021 to 2023, composing works for TROMP! and The King’s Singers and song cycle ‘The End of Infinity’ with JFDR and Benjamin Glorieux. His electronic duo Strange Boy released their debut album ‘Love Remains’, made in collaboration with Nico Muhly and Richard Formby, in 2024
