Amrit Kaur

We welcomed Amrit Kaur as a resident at the studio. Born and raised in Tottenham, Amrit is a singer-songwriter, composer, and one of a handful of female Sarangi players globally. Known for the Sarangi’s close connection to the human voice, her powerhouse vocals and instrumentation have been described by OZY magazine as “the place where Punjabi folk meets Aretha soul.”

Amrit began touring internationally at the age of 14 and has performed at Glastonbury, The Jazz Café, The Barbican, and the UN General Assembly, including appearances alongside the Marley family. Her background as a historian informs her storytelling, with live shows inviting audiences on a journey through time and music.

During her residency at Studio Richter Mahr, Amrit collaborated with live musicians on an album of songs memorialising her late sister, drawing on the stories and traditions of Punjabi women. She also created an immersive Sound Bath experience rooted in Vedic sound science, using the studio’s space to explore resonance, texture, and the transformative power of sound.
