[11/12/2025, 15:36:49] Nylo Beeharry Mian SRM: Artist residencies at SRM give artists free studio space and time to develop musical and artistic projects.
Oluwatobiloba Ajayi is a London-based artist and writer. Her writing has appeared in Real Review, The Brooklyn Rail, and Worms, among others. Recent group exhibitions include Amphiphrasis (words as objects): Oluwatobiloba Ajayi and Theresa Hak Kyung Cha at the Broodthaers Society of America, NY(2024), and Manifold Lagos at Alára (2024). She has recently published texts on the urgencies of Black satire, mapping as decolonial practice, and archival absence as it relates to trans histories.

During the residency, Tobi will develop an ongoing book-length project, a work of creative non-fiction that begins with a search for her great-great-grandfather, a Glaswegian baker who stowed away to Nigeria. Blending prose, poetry, and speculation, the braided inquiry seizes on the unknowability of personal histories and the research necessitated by stories held in bodies and mouths, not in formal archives.
