Maarja Nuut is a singer, violinist, and composer whose work blends classical training with diverse influences, from Hindustani music to Estonian archival sounds and electronic experimentation. Drawn to storytelling and myth, she has gained critical acclaim since her 2016 solo record Une Meeles, touring widely and collaborating with artists like Sun Araw, Kiya Tabassian, and Orchestre Régional de Normandie. Her 2021 album Hinged further cemented her reputation as one of Europe’s most innovative musicians.
“During my residency, I worked on Liivast juukseid kammides (Combing Sand Hair), a song cycle I composed in 2022, recording selections with London-based vocal ensemble Shards. I also reconnected with the violin, exploring how my approach has evolved after years of working with modular synthesis and sound design. The residency was the perfect space to experiment, and I left deeply grateful for the generosity and support of Max, Yulia, and the entire team at Studio Richter Mahr.”
