Clarice Jensen

Visiting Artists
Clarice Jensen is a New York-based composer and cellist recognized for her immersive, drone-like compositions, blending live cello improvisations with looping and electronic effects

A Juilliard graduate, Jensen’s work is marked by vivid color and meditative clarity, standing apart for its restraint and precision. Described by Self-Titled as “incredibly powerful neo-classical pieces from another astral plane,” her music has received praise for its pulsing movement and psychoacoustic depth.

Her debut album, For This From That Will Be Filled, was released on Miasmah in 2018, followed by the Drone StudiesEP on Geographic North in 2019. Signing with FatCat’s 130701 imprint, she released her second album, The experience of repetition as death, in 2020, named by NPR as one of the great ambient albums of the 21st century. Her latest release, Esthesis (2022), was ranked among NPR’s Best Experimental Albums of the Year. Recently, Jensen spent time in the studio recording new material for an upcoming album, set for release through FatCat.

Jensen’s film scores include Amber Sealey’s No Man of God and Fernanda Valadez’s Identifying Features, which earned her a 2021 Ariel Award nomination. She has collaborated with artists such as Jóhann Jóhannsson, Max Richter, Björk, and Taylor Swift. As artistic director of ACME (American Contemporary Music Ensemble), Jensen premiered her evening-length work, The Exaltation of Inanna, based on texts by Enheduanna (2300 BC), at The Morgan Library and Museum in New York.
