Artist residencies at SRM give artists free studio space and time to develop musical and artistic projects. Anya Gorkova is a London-based artist whose work explores the potentialities of photographic practices. In 2022, they graduated with distinction from Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London, earning an MA in Contemporary Photography Practices and Philosophies. Gorkova’s practice involves ‘queering’ photography by focusing on its unconventional aspects. A colour darkroom photographic hand printer, Anya explores the media by translating drawings into photograms – assemblages, transforming “photographic waste” into sculptural objects.
Gorkova’s solo show in London was curated by Robert Spragg at the gallery South Parade (2023), she also participated in group exhibitions like “Allow Cookies” at Kupfer Projects (2023) and has been involved in the performance “Interior: The Voice of Dreams” at Tate Modern (2023). Their work has been featured in publications including Vogue, Dazed, i-D and Frieze Magazines.
